A Reflection on Hosting, Leadership, and Digital Wisdom

Being a good host

I recently had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Necker Island—Richard Branson’s private island—and the experience left me with a question that sparked deep reflection for me and my team: Is being a host a lost art? And what does it have in common with leadership?

On the island, I experienced what it truly means to be hosted well—where every detail was intentional, every moment considered, and every guest seen. This stirred something in me. Back home, when I shared the experience with my team, it opened up a conversation about how rarely we see that kind of intentionality in our fast-paced, increasingly digital world.

We live in a fast-food culture where it has become the norm to consume everything on the go. We grab breakfast on the road, log into our first call of the day from a moving vehicle, and multitask our way through initiatives and tasks that were meant to be meaningful.

What does this pace mean for leadership? For starting digital initiatives? For collaboration?

How can we think about alternative ways of prioritizing and pacing our time that don't detract from—but rather add to—overall experience and outcomes?

There is a quiet beauty in being invited.

To take time out of your day.

To sit at a long, thoughtfully decorated table.

To see your name on a place card.

It signals that you matter.

In many ways, that’s what good leadership does. It invites. It makes space. It connects people to each other and creates a shared experience that’s grounded in intention, right from the beginning.

With this in mind, we’re here to start something new. We’d like to extend a warm invitation for you to join us.

Digital Wisdom No. 1

The way we begin shapes everything that follows. Whether you're launching a project or hosting a workshop or meeting, take time to invite, not just inform. Creating intentional space—like a set table—fosters alignment, belonging, and shared purpose from the start.

Welcome to the Digital Wisdom Collective blog

We invite you to take a breath, find a comfortable seat, and keep reading.

We will be your host for today—and for many entries to come.

Like in a good project kickoff, we are creating a shared mental model. One blog at a time.

What to expect

For now, this blog will appear twice per month and will bring new insights, ideas, tools and strategies for wise leadership and collaboration in the digital age. We promise to share ideas that will make you pause and think—about what you do and about how you do it.

At the end of each post, we’ll leave you with a small, practical piece of digital wisdom. Something you can carry with you, apply immediately, and maybe even share with others at your own metaphorical table. This space will also be the home for deep dives into developing a wise leadership mindset, through our Mindset Monday series.

Over time, you’ll see more voices join us here. Like a stimulating dinner party, we want to make sure there’s space for different perspectives and new connections.
